Lieteberg

Lieteberg welcomes you to the wonderful world of bees, butterflies and other ticklish insects with an experiential indoor museum and flowery Butterfly Garden, but is best known for the adventurous Barefoot Path.

The Lieteberg hiking area has nine hiking loops. Four of them start at the Entrance Gate (visitors' reception car park). The other loops can be reached from entry points nearby. What to expect: woods, hay meadows, juniper bushes, recognised quiet area, transition to Haspengouw.

Barefoot Path Lieteberg

What to do?

Barefoot Path

Exercise all your senses and both feet to perceive the special stimuli of wood, stones, tree chips, grass, loam and water on a carefully crafted trail with fun ‘obstacles’. Cold and hot, humid and dry, pleasant and tantalising alternate on a route almost 3 km long, which is only accessible barefoot. Along the way, you will encounter some spectacular things.

Insect Museum Entomopolis

Direct your gaze to earth and discover the fascinating world of insects. Entomopolis playfully and interactively teaches you that insects are useful and not nasty. Then follow the insect trail, a 2.5 km walk to the ‘beast tower’, the largest insect house (as well as for other critters) in the National Park.

Butterfly garden

In the indoor butterfly garden, you can admire about 30 of the 75 species of diurnal butterflies and some moth species. Here there are only plants they like and where they can nest safely.

Jommeke tower

From the Jomme Tower, watch the bees at work around the hives.

Horeca

In the visitors' centre you will find a self-service bistro (bistro + large terrace), operated by a team from Arbeidskansen vzw, an organisation that guides and supports people with a distance to the labour market to work, learn and grow.

The menu features Belgian classics such as vidé, stew and meatballs in tomato sauce. Of course with a number of local Limburg products as well as Lieteberg's own specialities: sweet honey wine and refreshing honey beer. Vegetarians have also been thought of. They can choose from veggie balls, noodles or a poké bowl. Eating a sandwich or a piece of Limburg pie is also possible.

Picnicking on our terrace? You certainly can! We only ask that all drinks are purchased from our bistro.

Bistro Lieteberg is open every day from 10 am to 4 pm. From 1 March until 5pm, from 30 March until 6pm. The bistro follows the opening hours of Visitor Centre Lieteberg.
